Such a wonderful and uplifting show that was. We both absolutely loved it. We were told we could take pictures and videos and I'm really glad I did as I can be transported back there again and again. Standing only (with a few chairs for the less able) . We were told you were encouraged to walk about but nobody did. I've told all my friends to go.

Fantastic musical and visual experience in a historical architectural setting. Extremely emotional and factual depiction of the history of the City of Manchester together with the music generated by the people of Manchester.

Phenomenal performance with amazing gospel singers, superb poetic narration with lots of local information and 'inside' jokes, and lastly a Ln amazing lightshow. The projections were brilliant- I especially liked the one where they rebuilt the cathedral, it really looked like the pillars were moving. We all had a really good evening.

The venue was stunning and the light show spectacular. The narration from Christopher Ecckeston was so informative about the history of Manchester. The singers were excellent, however to hear those anthems from an orchestra would take the show to another level. There was plenty of seating for those who needed it and would recommend as an enjoyable evening's entertainment.

The entry moment

Your journey begins at the historic gates of Manchester Cathedral, where the ancient stone architecture provides a stark, atmospheric contrast to the digital world of the 360-degree light and sound show waiting inside.

360° video projection

Using cutting-edge technology, witness how light sculpts the historic architecture of Manchester Cathedral. The stone walls transform into a vast, living canvas that grows and shifts before your eyes during LUMINISCENCE Manchester.

Live music

Hear the city come alive with iconic Manchester anthems. The Collectives Gospel Choir performs rousing arrangements of hits ranging from The Verve's Bitter Sweet Symphony to Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart.

Masterful narration

At the heart of LUMINISCENCE Manchester is a script by BAFTA and Olivier Award-winning writer Tim Whitnall. Voiced by Christopher Eccleston, the narration celebrates the history, heroes, and spirit of Manchester.

Multi-sensory walk-through

This is not a static show. You are invited to explore the cathedral as it is illuminated, moving through the space to find your own unique perspective of the 360° digital mapping.

Architectural illumination

The event is an electrifying celebration of the city's spirit, combining the heritage of the cathedral with high-tech visual storytelling for a truly unmissable experience.

Things to know before booking your LUMINISCENCE Manchester tickets

  • Booking window: LUMINISCENCE Manchester is a limited-time engagement, running from January 14, 2026, to March 26, 2026. We recommend booking at least one week in advance. Evening slots and weekends are in high demand and the first to sell out; book early to secure your preferred timed entry.
  • Entry & access: This is a timed-entry, walk-through experience. Please arrive 15 minutes before your slot. Late arrivals will not be allowed inside.
  • What’s included: A standard ticket includes entry to the cathedral and the 45-minute 360° show session. It does not include guided tours of the cathedral’s private vestries.
  • Format: There is no seating. Visitors should be prepared to stand and walk for the duration of the show to fully experience the 360° projections.
  • Policies and constraints: The show includes flashing lights (though no strobe lights are used). This experience could not be fully adapted for deaf or visually impaired guests as no transcripts or audio guides are available.
  • Upgrades: The Gold Package is the only way to secure fast-track entry. If you wish to avoid long outdoor queues, especially during winter, this is the recommended ticket.

Intensity & suitability guide

  • Visual intensity: High. LUMINISCENCE Manchester uses high-lumen projectors that create rapid movement and high-contrast light patterns across the ceiling and walls.
  • Audio level: Cinematic and resonant. The cathedral’s natural echo amplifies the sound, which can be quite loud during peak musical crescendos.
  • Pacing & autonomy: This is a walk-through experience. You move through the cathedral at your own pace, witnessing the narrative unfold around you.
  • Sensory sensitivities: While strobe lights are not used, the presence of constant flashing lights and loud choral music may be challenging for those with sensory sensitivities.
  • Age suitability: Suitable for all ages, though very young children may find the darkness and loud music of LUMINISCENCE Manchester slightly overwhelming.
  • Accessibility: The venue is wheelchair accessible via the south and east doors. Please note the specific route required to reach the restrooms via the choir door.

Tips & guidelines

  • Dress warmly: The stone interior of the cathedral can be cool. Wear an extra layer to stay comfortable during the show.  As there is no coat check, wear comfortable shoes for the walk-through.
  • Arrive early: Aim for 15 minutes before your slot. Gold ticket holders can use the dedicated fast-track lane for quicker entry into LUMINISCENCE Manchester. Use the main Victoria Street entrance. Have your digital QR code ready for scanning to ensure a smooth entry.
  • Movement: Don't stay in one spot. The 360° projections look different from the aisles than they do from the centre of the nave.
